Setup router on a Dial up Connection
Hi,
I use an usb modem on my laptop to run a Internet Service. It is a dial up connection which gives a speed of 128 kbps approx. I want to ask that weather is it possible to connect a router to my laptop and share the dial up internet service. Like I want to setup a router on a dial up connection. If this one is possible to do then how can I do. What are the steps to do so. What can be the cause and pro's of sharing a dail up connection. I know it is will be not good as broad band but at least I can update my antivirus.

It is possible to setup your router on a dial by this you can share your internet service with different computers. To set up a dial up connection first check out that the dial up is working properly and connecting to internet. Setup sharing option to the dial up connection. To do right click on the dial up shortcut go to properties and in sharing enable it. Now connect the router with the system. Dial the connection from the laptop. And the same internet can be used on different pc also. Here your router is set to work on dail up.

The speed will be extremely low if you set up the router on dial up. It is possible to connect but it is an tedious job. Just turning on the Internet Sharing service your users pc can share the internet on the router. The speed and connection compatibility also depends on the type of router you are using. There some router which do not support dial up then you will be annoyed.

Take care while getting a router. Because a router which work on DSL will not support dial up. You will need some old type of like Westell A90-210010 or 30, 2wire Home Portal 1000, etc. Dial up is extremely low speed provider service with fluctuation in connection. The speed can be reduced to 56kbps. You have a USB modem. So you can setup the modem directly to different pc to get a good speed.
