How to mesure FTP upload speed
Hi,
I had developed a program. Now I had uploaded the application on a FTP server. As there are multiple mirrors on the net available to put the file on it and get it anywhere. The problem here is when I was uploading the file it is tacking a very long time. The size it not so big. I had tried it multiple times. There can be possibilities that my server connection would be slow. Now here I want to ask that how can I measure the speed of files which I want to upload on FTP. By this at least I can determine the cause. Is there any way to do so. Thanks in advance.

Eventually FTP is the fastest way on to transfer file on the internet. Yes, you are right there are many mirror server on the web which provides you the particular service. Have you had check the downloading part of your server. First upload the file and then download it. If the downloading speed is fine then it means that your Internet Service Provider is giving more bandwidth to the download than as compare to upload. As you have heard that maximum numbers of ISP gives more bandwidth to the download of files than upload. Contact them for solutions.

The upload speed depends on the connection. Like at the same time how many user are trying to perform the same action. Second thing FTP clients are unlimited in file size but they have some limitation in connection time. As the upload of file has limitations because it not a pure FTP. And on the other hand the http thing it uses becomes unreliable on once the size of files go over one megabyte. I has always suffered with an time out issue whenever I tried to upload an zip file of around 50 megabyte.

I will recommend you to use WireShark and Wincap. It is an freeware tool which will provides you complete information on upload and download issues. It is an popular tool which can do much more than just simple speed measurement. Wincap is just a supportive tool to Wireshark which is a requirement. After installing the tools you will just need to decide which network interface you want to capture. It is an simple and easy to use tool who will provide you the complete information on the bandwidth problem.
